In 2021, I kept hearing the same story from my foreign friends after they visited Cambodia. They loved the temples and the food — but their tours felt rushed, scripted, and disconnected from real Cambodian life.
"Tourism was growing fast. But many local families were still struggling. That didn't sit right with me."
— Mara Masita, FounderI wasn't the only one who noticed. A small group of us had heard the same feedback again and again. We shared the same frustration: tourism numbers were increasing, yet many locals weren't truly benefiting.
That year, we joined the ACTSMART competition at the AUPP Technology Center together. What began as a competition idea quickly became a mission.
For three intense months, we researched, interviewed locals, tested ideas, and built late into the night. Within 90 days, the first TosTrip prototype was ready.
TosTrip exists because of that competition. ACTSMART gave us the push to turn frustration into action.
I didn't want to build a charity. I wanted to build opportunity — a platform where locals could showcase their skills, culture, and stories while earning income with dignity.
TosTrip is about preserving culture. It's about creating access. It's about breaking cycles of poverty by making tourism work for the people who make Cambodia beautiful in the first place.
